The short version
Worth It? collects no personal information, contacts no servers, and shares nothing with anyone. Every piece of data the extension touches stays on your device, in your browser, under your control. That's it.
1. Who we are
Worth It? is a Chrome browser extension that presents a short, research-backed quiz at checkout pages to help you make more intentional purchase decisions. It is operated as a personal project and has no commercial data interests.
2. What data the extension stores
Worth It? stores a small amount of data locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local. This data never leaves your device.
| What | Why | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Quiz results — score (0–100), the domain you were shopping on, whether you proceeded or cancelled, and the timestamp | To show you your purchase history and stats in the extension popup | Your device only, under the key sps_history |
| Whitelisted domains — a list of sites you have chosen to skip the quiz on | To remember your whitelist preference across sessions | Your device only, under the key sps_whitelist |
A maximum of 500 quiz results are kept. Older entries are automatically removed when the limit is reached. No names, email addresses, payment details, browsing history, or any other personal information are ever recorded.
3. What we do not collect
The following are explicitly never collected, stored, or transmitted by this extension:
4. Data transmission
Worth It? makes no network requests. It does not connect to any server, cloud service, or third-party API — not at install time, not during use, not ever. There is no backend infrastructure associated with this extension.
All processing happens locally in your browser. No data is ever transmitted off your device.
5. Third-party sharing
We do not sell, rent, share, or otherwise disclose any data to any third party. There are no advertising partners, analytics providers, or data brokers involved with this extension.
6. Permissions
Worth It? requests the following Chrome permissions, and only uses them as described:
- Access to all sites — required to detect checkout pages and display the quiz overlay on any e-commerce website you visit. The extension reads only the page URL, not page content.
- Storage — required to save your quiz history and whitelist locally on your device.
- Active tab / Tabs — required only to close the current tab when you click "End Shopping Session" in the quiz results.
7. Your control over your data
You are in complete control of all data the extension stores:
- View your history — open the extension popup and click the History tab.
- Delete all history — click "Clear history" in the extension popup. All stored quiz results are permanently removed from your device.
- Manage your whitelist — add or remove sites at any time from the Whitelist tab in the popup.
- Remove the extension entirely — uninstalling Worth It? from Chrome deletes all associated local storage immediately and permanently.
8. Children's privacy
Worth It? does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because no personal data is collected at all, there is no special risk to younger users. The extension is intended for general audiences.
9. Changes to this policy
If this privacy policy changes in any material way, the updated version will be posted at this URL and the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. Because no contact information is collected, we cannot notify users directly — we encourage you to review this page periodically.
Any future version of the extension that collects or transmits data in a new way will require explicit disclosure before that version is published.
